Dear Neighbor Ministries, an organization that helps poor, abused and neglected people become self-sufficient, had challenges and opportunities when it came to Great Plains Communications for help with its phone system. Not only is the organization outgrowing its facilities, its phone system was nearly 20 years old.
This created a number of problems, says Dear Neighbor’s Pat O’Donnell. “The system was old and unreliable, and we couldn’t get parts for it,” he says. “We were constantly trying to keep it patched together so our staff members could do their work.”
As with any business, internal and external communication is vital to Dear Neighbor so its people can stay in touch with clients and coordinate services with other agencies.
O’Donnell says having a reliable, easy-to-program voice mail system makes it easier for Dear Neighbor’s staff to confer with other service providers. Messages can also be forwarded internally, which makes it easier for staff to collaborate on care for clients.
The organization’s 501(c)(3) status made it eligible for a special discount from Toshiba. The buying process, the training and project management and service after the sale are all reasons O’Donnell says he’ll recommend Great Plains Communications to other businesses and non-profit organizations.
“We’re completely satisfied. We really have no complaints,” he says.
